ABOUT ME

As with many fairy tales, my story begins with “Once upon a time...” I did my Hotel Management from Goa in India, in the year 1989. Like any other 19- year regular kid, I was clueless why I got into this course. Maybe because I thought I would live my life in and out of five star rated hotels. I would be amongst the rich and famous with that bling-bling world around me, and that’s where I wanted to be for the rest of my life. 

So immediately after graduating from hotel management school I picked up my first job in the kitchen in the kitchen section, but my dream that got shattered within first few months of my new career. I thought I was not born to do this job. I wondered that did I waste my three years of studying Hotel Management. I shifted to service aspect of the hospitality industry.

I was a very naughty and an outstanding student, who was always standing outside the classroom, punished for some prank or the other. I was detained in the 9th standard for being very mischievous. I was a brilliant student though, passing with 87% in my 12th standard.

But my dream that got shattered within first few months of my new career. I thought I was not born to do this job. I wondered if I wasted my three years of studying Hotel Management. 

At this point of time, my mom told me, which has stuck with me forever. 

“Son, always do what you are passionate about, always offer an excellent value and always serve with love and seva bhava”. 

She quoted the phrase “Athiti Devo Bhava” 

I shifted to service aspect of the hospitality industry. Being an extrovert, I always aspired to interact with people, engage them, serve them with panache and gain popularity.

Self-Discovery

And then one day, I happen to see the movie “Cocktail” directed by Roger Donaldson, where Tom Cruise works as a bartender by the name Brian Flanagan. (After leaving the Army, Brian Flanagan tries to get a marketing job in New York. But without a college degree, this was not possible. He then decides to start studying for a business degree at the local City College and gets a part time job as a bartender. He realizes that it’s not that easy, but when his new boss Douglas Coughlin teaches him the secrets of the bar trade and they become the most famous bartenders in town.

I felt as if I hit the jackpot. That movie was an answer to my dreams. More than Tom Cruise it was Bryan Brown who plays Douglas Coughlin who showed me my path. 

After few years, I walked into a bar in Dubai called “Bourbon Street”, and wondered while being served my drink with flamboyance, flair and panache by a bartendress who winked at me when I tipped her - “Wow, this one here has a real cool job. She is getting paid to be at this party!” Well, at least it got me thinking!

The Entrepreneur Unleashed

I knew it was my calling and there was no looking back from there. 

It only took me a few days to understand that becoming a bartender in India was not going to be a game but a difficult feat. 

There were no bartending schools to train bartenders in India way back in 1987. So determined I was that I picked up books, learnt nuances of the craft from my senior bartenders, had many mentors to guide me. 

I overcame many challenges from an aspirant’s point of view 

In 1996, I started India’s first bartending school “Institute of Bar Operations & Management” along with Alco- Beverage Catering division under the same flagship. 

Over the years, I upgraded my courses zillion times because I wanted to serve other aspirants seeking this profession to stay updated with latest trends.

Travelled Far and Beyond in Quest of Learning

I travelled the world to learn and fine hone the craft by working in Dubai, visiting London to do a wine course and attended many Bar shows, studied whiskies in Scotland & Ireland, went to vineyards in France, Germany & Spain to learn about wines, worked in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Africa, Sri Lanka …. The list is endless. During the journey of 30 years, I have been a consultant and trainer for many liquor and beverage companies like Pernod Ricard, Diageo, Bacardi Martini, Brown Foreman, Beam Suntory, Aspri, Radico Khaitan, Allied Domeq, William Grants, Dabur, Pepsico, Coca Cola and many others.


Creating Leaders

I have always believed in creating leaders for the industry by focusing on –

•  Professionalism in terms of workmanship with accountability & 

•  Deliverance of highest quality in product and service 

The above factors have been the key determinants of sustainable competitive advantage for me in the field of teaching bartending and bartending business by creating world class industry leaders delivering exceptional experiences to customers and living a lifestyle of abundance. 

I have mentored more than 16000 students in past 2 decades. The purpose of going online is to reach far and all over to help people change their lives.

Milestones Achieved

I have consulted many stars rated hotels and bars pan India and internationally, soaking experiences from 24 countries as far as Africa to Europe to Indonesia. 

I have been featured in Young Turks in CNBC TV 18 and been awarded Achiever of the Year by Teachers Highland Scotch. 

I conceptualized, produced a bar competition- Barwizard with International participations and curated bar training program and competition for Carlson Group of hotels. I have been jurying to many bar competitions of many liquor brands like Campari, Finlandia, Bacardi, Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniels and so on. 

I have been awarded the “Mixologist of the Year” by Times of India on more than one occasion, by Gurgaon Food Freak awards and was awarded the ultimate title of “Ambassador of the Beverage Industry” by Spiritz Awards 2019

In the individual capacity I have been concocting and serving cocktails with panache for the rich and famous, Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities, State heads, corporate organizations and affluent families. 

I have been a speaker, curator and has conducted many team building experiences for corporates like Microsoft, Kohler, Nestle and many other brands. 

Bartending is like a religion to me…. 

You may call me the devil or the saint of this religion. 

Bartending is the only career I can think of that is fun, rewarding, flexible and lucrative!

New Learnings

Professional

In 2014, after a brilliant stint of successful alco-bev business for 18years, I opened my own bar offering an awesome experience along with artisanal cocktails. I did very well in business and was instantly awarded many recognitions. But by the summer of 2017, I realized that I was dependent on my team for delivering exceptional experiences and I was not free. I would be working all days of the week and long hours. 

I became the slave of my own passion.

I wrapped up my bar business overnight and started new beginnings with old methods- training, teaching, consulting and beverage catering. I got my life back. 

Voila! 

Then came 2019, the year of the pandemic, which resulted in shutting all my businesses and also the hospitality industry. It stretched over 16-18 months putting the world on a stand still. All incomes stopped, but all outgoing expenses were still hanging over the head like a sharp sword. I spent all my life long earnings to save my business and supporting my team and their families. No joy as pandemic continued. 

Then, I explored the virtual opportunities as they were on the rise. I got inspired by many but had only one mentor in learning the nuances of online coaching by Siddharth Rajsekhar, who is earning over a million a month by building his own online community of digital coaches.

Voila again! 

I designed my own Bartending & Wine courses. I also designed a course to help other bartenders set up their own bartending business, by understanding & completing the above courses, applying my own experience as a bartender and a trainer. 

But I followed their precise formulas. 

I learnt the art of traffic generation, list building, conversions, copywriting and community building. 

Now I am able to SCALE my business from ZERO to $5000 per month after 3 months and rapidly growing. 

I am on MISSION to help others to achieve their FINANCIAL GOALS, and help them to live a lifestyle of FREEDOM 

I now teach people how to create multiple streams of income by 

•  creating digital products based on their knowledge, skills or experience 

•  creating an online automated sales system to generate leads 

•  creating an impactful influence as brand to generate leads and make sales

Spiritually

Besides all the bartending and entrepreneur stuff I do, I believe in finding a balance in life which is progressive and productive. I personally follow and practice, in all my awareness, the teachings of Buddhism. 

I firmly believe that in each moment of life, there is profound potential. The teachings of Nichiren Buddhism awaken us to these transformative possibilities and enables us to harness them. 

I believe in balance, The Middle Way is the path that transcends and reconciles that characterizes most thinking, an enlightened view of life that creates happiness and abundance for oneself and others. 

I am a father to a daughter and husband of a loving wife and son to a very scholastic father. I am very creative and a go getter and firmly believes in value-based institutions whether be business or family or any other aspect of life. 

I love to meet people, travel to places of natural beauty, or heritage and culture across the globe to learn more about history, traditions and philosophies.
